April Datey

Another month, another date with my husband!

(our March date was watching the midnight showing of Hunger Games but we forgot to get pictures)

Saturday we went to the San Diego Zoo and had a great time! Nick had an extra credit assignment for his anthropology class that had to be done here so we took full advantage of the opportunity.

We spent a lot of time on "monkey trail" since Nick's assignment was on primates.

My favorite picture! This bonobo is living the life!
Then we rode the Sky-fari up to see the polar bears.

What a view!

It was mating season for the polar bears so they took out the Male's twin sister and brought in his girlfriend. The zoo worker told us that the Female had been leading him on for 2 weeks already.

Cute!

He just watched her as she slept and when she finally woke up he followed her everywhere while she paid no attention to him.

female: For the last time NOOO!!!
male: awww

Sometimes Nick and I like to narrate what we think the animals are thinking. Makes this more fun :)

Koda's Birthday Present

I decided it was time for Koda to have a dog house. I'll be the first to admit, that little guy is spoiled!

So of course he deserved nothing but the best! He got a custom, quality made dog house made by my dad!

First we got supplies

Then we cut the materials and made the first wall

Pretty soon this became ...

{{That's Pepito (my parents' dog) testing out our work}}

I couldn't help myself at this point, I had to show Koda his birthday present!

My dad was so nice to deliver it to our house when he finished. He, with help from Nick set it up in our backyard.

The next day Nick and I painted it and here is the end result:

KODA LOVES IT!!!

February Date brought to you by Chef Nick

On Valentines Day I got a text from Nick that said, "Hey Mike's car broke down and we're at Paul's. Can you pick up Taylor in a half hour and bring her here? Plz call before you come."

So of course Taylor and I didn't fall for this BUT we were excited to see what the boys were up to.

We arrived to Paul and Eva's house and Paul (host) welcomed us to "The House of Love." He took us back to the kitchen where we found this:

{Chef Michael and Chef Nicholas}

They had a menu for us and the table had been set!
{haha notice they just got a menu and blacked out what they didn't offer}

They cooked LOTS of food and it was all good too! Taylor, Eva and I were all impressed! We all had a great time! They also bought us HUGE cards and planned to watch a chick flick with us. But by the time we got to eat we were all too tired for a movie. You bet we took a rain check!

Bright are the stars that shine

Here's some random trivia for you!

What HUGE celebrity did not (until last week) have a star on the walk of fame?

the answer is Sir Paul Mccartney!

Dad took me down to Hollywood to Paul's star unveiling ceremony. It was a lot of fun. I am so happy we were able to be a part of this little bit of Beatles history. It was awesome to have a gathering of people who appreciate The Beatles as much as I do! One lady had a ticket from their concert in 1966, she was 13 when she went to the concert. If only I had been alive!
Now they're complete in a nice row in front of Capitol Records building where they once recorded their music.

Higher and Higher, Baby!

As part of my new year's resolutions I am trying to come up with some fun ideas for our monthly dates! Last year our go to date was Disneyland. Now that our passes have expired we need to get creative!
We went on our January date last weekend and we had so much fun!

I got a groupon for Hangar 18 an indoor rock climbing gym! I had never been before and I will definately be going back.

I was impressed by Nick's ability to climb! He conquered a part of the wall that I was only able to get up about 2 feet. Pathetic. I tried so hard and so many times! I kept falling off and I felt like Tarzan swinging from the vines. So failing was actually fun, good thing Nick kept the rope tight! I'll get you next time super sloped wall!

Also, my dad is helping me is making a special project for a special little guy. Here is a sneak preview:

I will post when it's all done! Koda can't wait!

First Crafts of 2012!

In my last post I told you I've made 3 crafts this year, so here they are.

I've decided to start early on any holiday decorating I want to do. Christmas came and passed so quick and I completed ZERO Christmas projects for my home. Sad. Sad. Sad. Especially after falling in love with so many awesome projects on pinterest.
 So in preparation for Valentines Day I made these pillows for our papasan:

Amy from Diary of a Quilter did an awesome guest post at Ucreate on how to make the pillow on top. It was an easy project and didn't take long at all. I used the same technique to make the "LOVE" pillow to go with it.

Next, one of the littles from church was baptized Saturday. I found this tutorial on The Rachel Berry Blog for how to make a CTR towel and she also has a cute poem to go with it. I went to Walmart and bought a towel and figured I could use some fabric scraps I had at home. When I got home I could only find girly flowery fabrics. Not going to work for a boy. Then I rememberd a green apron I made 6 YEARS AGO! Yep, I still had some leftover fabric! Yay! So save your fabric scraps! They WILL come in handy some day. And pinterest has some great ideas on how to store these in an organized way.

And for my last project I used my precious Silhouette! This is my first time using heat transfer vinyl to make a t-shirt and I loved how it turned out. And even though I reminded myself a million times to flip the image before cutting ... I forgot. But at least I don't have any words on my shirt so it wasn't too bad. Is anyone else completely obsessed with the Hunger Games? I am so excited for the movie! And please ignore my awkwardness, sadly this picture was the least awkward of all the ones I tried to take hah!
